Assignment:
Invent a tool that makes the patients feel involved in their treatment plan and can facilitate the conversation between the patient and the healthcare provider.

The Proces

The foundation for the process was absolutely great. We had a week-long sprint, every other week, for about 2 months. In the sprints healthcare professionals,
patients, project managers, and the team of 3 consultants (including me) would work together on developing the tool.

The 3 concepts

Doing the research we found and defined some patterns of user needs. Based on the defined needs we developed 3 concepts that we presented to the group. The group was divided into 3 groups, where they would work on one of the concepts. We made sure that both a patient and a Healthcare professional were included in every group. Based on the feedback from the groups, we asked the groups to visualize their ideas for the concept in freehand drawings. We did this to get a better and more visual understanding of their vision.

The digital prototype

After the workshop where the team had worked with the 3 concepts, we had come up 8 ideas for using full tools. We made a low-fidelity prototype, that we used for testing and identifying the most important tools. We asked the patients to prioritize the 8 tools and tell us why they made the decision and how they could benefit from using the tools.

Time for Service Design

We was aware that the app wouldn't gain success on its own, in the stressful healthcare environment. Using selected service design tools, we made a guide on, how to introduce the app. We developed a flowchart describing when and how-to introduce the app to patients. We also made a blueprint that describes the touchpoint between the patient, the healthcare provider and the app. The blueprint also highlights the effect/culture change the app will have in the healthcare system.
